- Changes to the Copyright Laws beginning January 2008:
The new copyright laws affect the ordering and delivery of articles via libraries and other commercial service providers. This applies to all journals that are not on hand in the library. In general, PDF files may only be obtained directly from the publisher/company. The prices vary by publisher and range between 8 EUR and 152 EUR. Libraries are only allowed to send journal articles in printed form (i.e., hard copy via postal mail or fax) for a base fee of 6.50 EUR. The fees for the PDF files as well as for the hard copies must be covered by the individual MDC account ("Kostenstelle").
The MDC Library used January 2008 as a test month in order to offer practical solutions. The ordering form was changed in accordance with the new conditions. The coverage of costs must be explicitly stated.
We welcome your feedback regarding the changes and new procedures. Unfortunately, the tests of deliveries of articles via fax proved to be of low quality- however, an electronic fax version is not possible due to both legal and qualitative reasons.
