Communications
As a publicly-funded institute, the MDC has a responsibility to inform and engage with the public, communicating its research and activities. The role of the communications department is to support the MDC in this effort. We also to help facilitate communication with the wider research community and within the institute itself. Our areas of activity include:
Conferences & events
With one of the most modern conference centres in Berlin, the MDC.C, hosts and organises several international conferences per year along with many other events, meetings, symposia, and seminars.
Websites & online communication
The communications department is responsible for curating and developing the MDC website, in collaboration with the IT department, and for maintaining the MDC’s social media presence.
Writing and publications
Launched in June 2011, the MDC employee magazine, iMDC, is a quarterly publication with news and features about the MDC, its people, its work and activities. The Communications department also produces a range of published materials including brochures, flyers, books and a biennial research report. Stories about the latest cutting-edge MDC research are written for the public and appear on our website as MDC Research Highlights.
Outreach activities
The MDC takes part in the yearly Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, a city-wide public science event, co-ordinated on our campus by the Gläsernes Labor and BBB Management GmbH. In collaboration with the Gläsernes Labor we are also in the process of establishing a new training scheme for secondary school science teachers, bringing modern molecular biology to the classroom. Throughout the year, we welcome diverse groups of visitors to the institute, tailoring tours of relevant labs and facilities.
