Organigram of the MDC

 

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch is a foundation that has been set up in accordance with the law of the State of Berlin with the aim of pursuing medical research on both a molecular and cellular level as well as applying the results of such research to clinical and other practical situations.

The Board of Trustees is the supervisory committee of the MDC and is responsible for monitoring the legality, effectiveness, and economic efficiency of the management of all the activities of the foundation. It makes decisions about general research aims and important matters involving political aspects of the research and financial affairs of the foundation. It is chaired by a representative from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. The Vice-Chairman is a representative from the Berlin Senate Authority for Science, Research, and Culture.

The Scientific Advisory Board of the Board of Trustees prepares the decisions on scientific issues for the Kuratorium. It is responsible for the ongoing evaluation of research generated at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch. Members include the scientific members of the Kuratorium as well as external scientific experts.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the leadership of the institute and it is composed of the Scientific Director (Chairman of the Board of Directors), his deputy and the Administrative Director. Each holds office for a period of 5 years.

The Scientific Council advises the Board of Directors on matters of fundamental scientific importance. In addition to the coordinators of the main research areas, the Scientific Council includes other scientific staff from the Max Delbrück Center.

The Staff Council is especially closely involved in the decisions of the Max Delbrück Center that affect the personal and social interests of the staff.
