The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology
Systems Biology integrates high-throughput technologies, mathematics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biochemistry and engineering to derive predictive, quantitative models for biological systems. Combined with clinical research, Systems Biology has the potential to steer medicine into the the next century of personalized medicine.
The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) aims to decipher the ‘post-transcriptional regulatory code’ and to directly integrate it with other major cellular regulatory mechanisms, in particular transcriptional regulatory circuits, signal transduction pathways, protein-protein interaction networks, and post-translational modifications.
With this aim, the MDC has launched this major expansion of its current scientific program. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has allocated 7.5 million euros for the period 2008-2010 and the Senate of Berlin is complementing this with up to 4.4 million euros. (more...)
