Dear colleagues,

 

Current scientific, medical, general scientific and sociopolitical aspects of biotechnology will be discussed during an international congress organized jointly by BioTOP Berlin-Brandenburg, the Berlin-Buch Campus, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) together with Berlin-Buch Management GmbH (BBM) and the Federal Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (BPI) as well as Berliner Wirtschaftsgespräche. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the

In six plenary sessions and nine workshops topics such as "Understanding the Genome", "Microarrays Developments and Applications," "Pharmacogenomics", "Regenerative Medicine", "Bioinformatics" as well as "Bioethics" will be introduced and discussed. In addition to the above topics, the workshops will also highlight the status of biotechnology in Germany as well as the situation of biotechnology regions in other countries. One workshop will specifically deal with genetically-modified food.

 

The congress will be attended by scientists from Denmark, Estonia, France, the UK and the USA. Also expected to attend this event are the Federal German Minister for Research, Mrs. Edelgard Bulmahn, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Mr. Klaus Wowereit as well as the Brandenburg Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Ulrich Junghanns. The last Berlin-Buch Congress on Biotechnology in May 1999 attracted several hundred experts.

 

During the congress also the third construction stage of the Innovation and Foundation Center (IGZ) of BBB Management Berlin-Buch GmbH will be officially opened on the campus, a fitting celebration for the 5th anniversary of the IGZ.

 

After the congress, the "Science night" -  to which you are also invited - will be staged at the Berlin-Buch campus, starting at 5 p.m.
