3rd International Symposium on Obesity and Hypertension
(3. Internationales Symposium zu Übergewicht und Bluthochdruck)
Thursday 23rd October – Saturday 25th October 2003
Max Delbrück Communications Center (MDC.C)
Robert-Rössle-Str. 10
13125 Berlin, Germany
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Colleagues,
Obesity is currently recognised as a worldwide epidemic affecting more than 250 million people. It is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases including hypertension. In Germany there are approximately ten million people who suffer from hypertension as a result of being obese. In experiments with animals it has been shown that the increase in blood pressure is a direct result of excess weight. In recent years basic researchers have made numerous new discoveries in the biology of fatty tissue. Meanwhile they know that a number of molecules, which are produced by fatty cells, can directly damage the cardiovascular system and the kidneys. Obesity und high blood pressure are the main focus of an international symposium for basic researchers and clinicians that Prof. Arya Sharma (McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) has organised together with Prof. Friedrich Luft (Franz Volhard Clinic, Charité, Universitätsmedizin (University Medicine) Berlin, Berlin-Buch Campus in the Helios Clinic and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, MDC, Berlin-Buch).
I would like to invite you to the 3rd International Symposium.
