Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Research has gained ever more insight into the natural regeneration processes of the body. Researchers aim to use this knowledge to improve the treatment of severe diseases as part of the new field of “regenerative medicine”. Some of this underlying research involves stem cells, including human embryonic stem cells. The latter has been heavily debated, especially in Germany.
An international conference on the state of the art of stem cell research and its regulation in Europe is being organized by the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch together with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation on April 7 – 8, 2005. It is part of the MDC research project “Discourse on Ethical Questions of Biomedicine” of the research group “Bioethics and Science Communications” (Head: Dr. Christof Tannert), which is supported by the German Federal Research Ministry.
