Aim of the Microscopy Core Facility (MCF) at the MDC is to provide researchers mainly from the MDC and the ECRC with a range of high-end fluorescence microscopes to acquire high quality microscopic images and the necessary support to enable them to perform advanced imaging experiments with different specimens ranging from fixed cells and tissue sections to live cells and organisms (i.e, embryos, zebrafish, drosophila).

Available microscopy techniques include

  • Confocal laser scanning microscopy
  • 2-Photon microscopy
  • Wide-field fluorescence microscopy
  • TIRF microscopy
  • Laser-assisted micro-dissection and catapulting
  • Stereofluorescence microscopy

The MCF also offers guidance to find the optimal conditions for the intended experiments, i.e. specimen preparation, selection of fluorophores, optimal imaging conditions and help with the following image processing and analysis.
