Bioinformatics Group

Molecular biology reached a point where it is possible to generate huge amount of data describing key reactions of organisms: microarrays, genomes, SNP chips and protein-protein interaction, among many other techniques.

In order to make reasonable use of this information, computers and efficient algorithms are required.

The cross-talk between biology and computer science, mathematics, physics and other related disciplines compose what can be called Bioinformatics.

Within this field, the development and use of computer methods works in two directions: (i) Helping biologically oriented researchers to understand their results and reach conclusions and (ii) suggesting new hypothesis for the phenomena beneath the collected data.
