Özlem Akilli-Öztürk studied Molecular Biology and Genetics at the at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. In 2006 she pursued her Master thesis on the role of Sonic hedgehog signaling in breast cancer. Özlem completed her PhD at the Walter Birchmeier lab on the topic "Distinctive role of Gab1 in the initiation of the hair cycle in mouse skin", and presently continues her work as a postdoc.
