Science and Society

Science does not take place in a vacuum. Scientific findings have the potential to affect peoples’ lives or the lives of future generations. As a publicly funded research institution, we are committed to making the results of our research available to the widest possible audience. This is done through press releases as well as through events such as the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Long Night of Sciences).

At the same time, scientific research takes place in a social context. We are working mothers and fathers, we use energy to power our buildings and equipment, travel to the campus by bicycle, train or car, and must always consider the ethical implications of our work.

Science and Animal Research

Animal experiments are an essential part of our work at the MDC and very important in biomedical research in general. We are committed to raising public awareness about this aspect of our work and offering a dialogue. More on this topic here (currently only in German).
