SignGene students convene once per year to present their research and exchange ideas with their peers. In a very informal setting, the students learn from each other about the various scientific approaches in the program and personal experiences at the different institutions in Berlin, Haifa, and Jerusalem. Usually, students invite 1-2 guest speakers of their choice to get the most out of these meetings.
Complemented by social activities, the PhD Retreats are designed for students not only to learn about science, but to build a community and to get introduced into the different cultures of Germany and Israel.
The first SignGene PhD Retreat took place at Karei Deshe, Israel, from January 30 - February 1, 2014.
