An ERC funded post-doctoral position is available in the research group of Dr. Ilaria Piazza at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) in Berlin, Germany.
Key skills for the project are a strong interest in genome engineering, proteomics, technology development and quantitative biology.

Job Description

The Piazza laboratory ( uses mass spectrometry-based approaches to study protein small molecule interactions in cell and tissues integrating proteomics with gene expression data. We are searching for a post-doctoral fellow working on an exciting project that aims to understand how metabolism influences protein-genome interactions, obtaining biological insights about chromatin allosteric interactions.
The metabolic status of the cell provides an important regulatory layer for gene expression control and various other processes in the cell. In this context, you will investigate how protein domains function as sensors/reader of metabolite levels, and guide the coordinated recruitment of regulatory factors to the genome.

To address these biological questions you will join a young and enthusiastic team of scientists working at the cutting edge of proteomics and genomics ( You will focus on the application of advanced proteomics analyses based on mass spectrometry, next generation sequencing (NGS) and apply relevant bioinformatics approaches to investigate the relationship between metabolism and chromatin architecture. You will have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and be involved in international cross-disciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate will take a strong lead in the experimental design and data interpretation collaborating with other team members.


Applicants should have a solid experimental or computational background, a strong publication record as primary author, and excellent communication skills in English.

The candidate should have:

  • A PhD in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology or equivalent.
  • A strong interest in genome engineering, proteomics, technology development and quantitative biology.
  • Expertise in chromatin biology, preferentially chromatin proteomics, or DNA/RNA protein interaction studies. Ideally, experience with ChiP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, RIP, eCLIP, ChiP-SICAP or similar methods.
  • Previous knowledge of quantitative proteomics/mass spectrometry methods is beneficial but not strictly essential, as expertise can be provided on site.
  • Previous experience with work with human cancer cell lines or budding yeast (S. cerevisiae) is a plus.
  • Programming skills with Python, R or shiny applications are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams. Excellent communication skills.
A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and integration of genomics and proteomics concepts are the requisite skills for this position, thus applicants wishing to integrate computational and experimental biology approaches are specifically encouraged to apply.
