The sound of silence: Mechanisms of auditory perception and dysfunction

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Müller is Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Neuroscience and Biology at Johns Hopkins University, and currently working in Berlin as Einstein BIH Visiting Fellow. Dr. Müller has been working on auditory perception and the development of neuronal circuits for many years. One of his projects aims to define the components of the mechanotransductory machinery in hair cells, and he was able to identify several genes that are linked to deafness in humans. Beyond that, he is trying to identify genes and mechanisms important for the assembly of auditory circuits essential for the processing of sound signals in the CNS.
