Neue Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Präeklampsie [New developments in the field of preeclampsia]

Preeclampsia is a common pregnancy-related disease with high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Both the definition and our understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease have changed in recent years. Immunological and antiangiogenic imbalance is decisive for the development of preeclampsia. While new studies question the targeted blood pressure, new innovative therapies are being tested in clinical trials. Following preeclampsia patients show structural cardiac changes (diastolic dysfunction) even 2 years later, which could explain the significantly increased cardiovascular risk for these patients.
