Avihu Klar: Wiring the spinal cord - Evolution and function of spinal neuronal circuits

Avihu Klar is a Professor in the Department of Medical Neurobiology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (https://medicine.ekmd.huji.ac.il/en/research/avihuk/Pages/default.aspx). His work has been focusing on understanding the mechanisms controlling wiring of neural circuits for locomotion in the vertebrate spinal cord. Over the years, Prof. Klar identified molecular mechanisms both at transcription factor and axon guidance receptor levels that determine axonal trajectories and the specificity of target selection. In more recent work, his group discovered evolutionary changes contributing to the wiring of motor circuits for flying and terrestrial locomotion.
