Berlin Edit-a-thon - online

Berlin Edit-a-thon online

1.part (introduction) on 28.07.2021, 15:00 h - 18:00 h
2nd part (conclusion) on 11.08.2021, 16:00 h - ca. 19:00 h

The project is being carried out by the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) as part of the joint initiative "Wissensstadt Berlin 2021" and is supported by the Berlin Senatskanzlei.

We would like to give a face to female researchers and university teachers with a connection to Berlin who have shaped and are still shaping Berlin as a center of science and thus honor their achievements. Based on Wikipedia entries that are newly created or edited, we would like to create an exhibition of prominent and lesser-known female Berlin scientists that can be shown at various locations in the city. In this way, we would like to (re)give Berlin's female scientists a lasting presence in the collective perception and memory.

Even on Wikipedia, not even 17% of biographical entries are dedicated to women and articles about women scientists are rare.

This is where our edit-a-thons come in. With the participation of the general public, we would like to open up biographies of female scientists from all disciplines on three dates and use them to create or further develop Wikipedia entries.

In introductory workshops, you will learn how to research, edit, and write Wikipedia articles so that you can then compose or revise texts together or on your own. This writing workshop is supported with regular open office hours to clarify questions.
