Temporal action of polyamines on muscle homeostasis in health and obesity
-
As project group leader at the Paul Flechsig Institute for Brain Research at the University of Leipzig, Mario Ost investigates the tissue-specific function of polyamines in the diurnal regulation of cellular and metabolic homeostasis. A special focus is on the protective role of spermidine as an activator of autophagy for the maintenance of mitochondrial function in skeletal muscle in physiological (e.g. regeneration after sports or in old age) and pathophysiological (e.g. obesity) conditions.
