MDC Newsletter 02/2019: In the Center, Immunology and Inspirations

Angela Merkel in the lab

Dear reader,

By public transport you can get from Berlin-Buch to the center of Berlin in 27 minutes - but it took the MDC almost 27 years to cover this distance. Chancellor Angela Merkel was able to see for herself that it was worth the wait: On Tuesday, she opened our new research building on the campus of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The Chancellor was upbeat and full of praise for our Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB).

At the beginning of the week, the world elite of immunology met at the MDC to better understand the immune system. With this knowledge, for example, black skin cancer can be cured in up to 40 percent of cases. The researchers are investigating further applications of the "Helmholtz Future Topic Immunology and Inflammation", which is coordinated by the MDC. Find an interview on the first "Immunology & Inflammation" conference in this newsletter.
