Berlin has ambitions, that is well known. Whether the city actually lives up to them is sometimes disputed. One thing is certain for us at the MDC: Berlin is developing into an extraordinary health and research metropolis. And our teams - together with many partners - are intensively involved in this process. For example, an international team led by Norbert Hübner has just presented a map of the human heart in unprecedented depth of focus. But it is also evident from the fact that the LifeTime Initiative (coordinated by MDC and Institute Curie) unites Europe's elite in cell-based medicine. It is also gratifying that the city has just been selected as a location for the National Center for Tumor Diseases - because of such expertise in single cell biology as well as in cancer immunology. And three ERC Starting Grants alone have been awarded to young researchers at the MDC and ECRC.
We will inform you about all this and much more in this newsletter. But we also want to discuss with you: Does Berlin even have the potential to become an international bio-hub like Boston? That's the topic of a virtual event on September 28, to which we cordially invite you. Sign up for "Breaking Boundaries" - we look forward to seeing you there.
