The exchange program promotes interdisciplinary networking between young scientists at Helmholtz and helps them learn from one another Institute & Campus December 18, 2020 Postdoc Day: “Young people are making the future” More than 150 postdocs and senior Ph.D. students from across the capital joined for a virtual Berlin Science Postdoc Day to present research, build skills and network. Emmanuelle Charpentier, who shares the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was the keynote speaker. Science December 15, 2020 Graduation ceremony 2020: Keep at it! Earning your doctorate deserves a celebration. At MDC, this takes place every year in the form of a graduation ceremony. But this year, given the unprecedented situation, doctorands were awarded their diplomas in an online event. Institute & Campus December 03, 2020 Tissue regeneration at the single-cell level The 13th Berlin Summer Meeting “Rising from the Ashes – Regeneration at the Single Cell Level” will take place as a Christmas Special on Dec. 10-11, 2020. The free, virtual conference will feature talks about regeneration research in animals and organoids. Science December 02, 2020 Why we cannot yet avoid animal testing At MDC, we do research to promote human health and well-being. In our labs we employ cell cultures, organoids and computer models. We seek and develop alternatives to animal experiments. It remains a fact that, biomedical research is not possible without animal experiments. Our researchers tell us why. The test now published in ACS Nano, also helps in the early diagnosis of cancer. Science October 06, 2020 Immunodeficiency does not put a strain on mice kept in pathogen-free environments If mice live in pathogen-free housing conditions, they are not further burdened by immunodeficiency. This has been reported by researchers at the MDC, Freie Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in PLOS ONE. For the first time, the researchers comprehensively investigated the well-being of these animals.
