Prof. Detlev Ganten, founding director of the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine (MDC), Berlin Buch, has been elected a foreign, corresponding member of the medical faculty of the Polish Academy of Science. This was announced by Prof. Jozef Skapski and Prof. Adam Bielanski of the Polish academy in Cracow. This decision is a tribute to Prof. Ganten's scientific research on high blood pressure as well as his commitment to Polish science and culture.

Professor Jens Reich, molecular biologist at the Max-Delbrück-Centre for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin-Buch and co-founder of the civil rights movement "New Forum" in the former GDR is to receive the newly-endowed "Anna Krüger Prize of the Institute of Advanced Study of Berlin". Reich is the first recipient of this award, which is worth 50,000 German marks. Reich works at the MDC where he heads the "Bioinformatics" working group which deals with decoding of the human genome and its recording on a data base.
