The MDC in Berlin has received a certificate from audit berufundfamilie (audit workandfamily). In the future, MDC employees are to receive targeted support and assistance throughout different phases of their lives.

Today the research project BioRescue for the rescue of the Northern White Rhino, which is threatened with extinction, is officially launched. State-of-the-art reproduction and stem cell technology shall ensure the survival of this key species. The international scientific consortium, led by the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (Leibniz-IZW) and with the significant participation of the MDC, is receiving around 4 million Euros in funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the BMBF's biodiversity conservation research initiative.

With its large-scale research project BioRescue, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding research into the artificial reproduction of the functionally extinct northern white rhino. MDC researchers are among the project partners working together to create new animals from skin cells.

An international team of researchers are seeking to explore the heart at a depth that was previously impossible. They have now received a grant of nearly four million US dollars from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative – as one of the 38 Seed Networks working on the Human Cell Atlas. MDC researcher Norbert Hübner is co-coordinator of the project.

Cells sometimes love themselves to pieces – and develop a big appetite for their own components. A group of researchers led by Professor Oliver Daumke of the MDC has now discovered how certain molecules trigger this self-cleaning process.

MDC researcher Dr. Stephan Preibisch and a team of scientists from Berlin, Bochum, and Düsseldorf have won the first round of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s “In Vitro Challenge.” The goal of the competition is to find clever alternatives to testing on laboratory animals. One bright idea is miniature organs created from human stem cells.
