Press Release No. 30 June 21, 2019 Berlin Straight to the heart An international team of researchers are seeking to explore the heart at a depth that was previously impossible. They have now received a grant of nearly four million US dollars from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative – as one of the 38 Seed Networks working on the Human Cell Atlas. MDC researcher Norbert Hübner is co-coordinator of the project. Press Release No. 25 May 30, 2019 Berlin Unknown mini-proteins in the heart A team led by Professor Norbert Hübner’s MDC research group has observed the human heart cells’ “protein factories” in action, examining the entire tissue for the very first time. In an article published in Cell, the group reveals their surprising discoveries and the possibilities they contain for the future treatment of heart disease. Press Release No. 12 March 28, 2019 Berlin New project in the field of genomics EASI Genomics: an EU-funded project to provide free-of-charge access to sequencing technologies Press Release No. 9 March 13, 2019 Berlin Oscillation in muscle tissue When a muscle grows or a muscle injury heals, some of the stem cells develop into new muscle cells. A research team at the MDC led by Carmen Birchmeier has now described in the journal “Genes and Development” how this process is regulated by two proteins produced in an oscillatory manner. Press Release No. 7 March 04, 2019 Berlin / Philadelphia Decoding Lil BUB: Crowdfunded project reveals genome of internet celebrity cat Lil BUB has drawn millions of followers across the internet for her cute appearance.
