The team has shown in Nature Communications that the procedure is very effective, especially when it comes to fighting follicular lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, the most common type of blood cancer in adults. Press Release No. 59 December 28, 2020 Berlin Integration of BIH into Charité and the privileged partnership with the MDC On January 1, 2021, the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH ) will become the translational research unit of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and will then form – alongside the hospital and the medical faculty – Charité’s third pillar. Press Release No. 58 December 23, 2020 Berlin Molecular reporters expose the allies of the brain tumor Until recently, it was unclear how and why cancer cells adapt to their environment. A team led by Dr. Gaetano Gargiulo at MDC has now developed a technology that can be used to observe the molecular processes in living cells. The researchers present their results in the journal Cancer Discovery. Press Release No. 48 October 29, 2020 Berlin Not all hearts are the same An international research team recently created the first atlas of the human heart. Now the scientists want to add a new dimension to the project: diversity. They are being supported by an additional Seed Networks grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Press Release No. 47 October 16, 2020 Berlin MDC research funded by NIH award A large grant under the NIH’s 4D Nucleome Program supports MDC scientist Ana Pombo’s work as a member of a multi-team consortium led by UC San Diego in the U.S. The team will investigate how DNA organizes inside cell nuclei and functions in space and time. Press Release No. 45 October 08, 2020 Berlin Moles: Intersexual and genetically doped Female moles not only have ovarian, but also testicular tissue that produces male sex hormones – which lets them diverge from the categorization into two sexes. A team led by Berlin researchers Stefan Mundlos and Darío Lupiáñez describes in Science which genetic modifications contribute to this singular development. Press Release No. 37 August 31, 2020 Berlin Cancer’s ongoing evolution A new algorithmic approach reveals individual tumors continue to evolve and remodel their genomes, and this occurs across a broad range of tumor types. Identifying changes that benefit tumors and help them metastasize could help with future treatments. Results are published in Nature. Press Release No. 34 August 14, 2020 Berlin €66 million for the Berlin spin-off T-knife The Berlin biotech start-up T-knife, a spin-off from the MDC together with Charité, has secured investments totaling €66 million. Four venture capital funds committed to the financing in early August. T-knife develops new cancer treatments using modified immune system T cells. Press Release No. 28 June 26, 2020 Berlin How ApoE4 endangers the brain Apolipoprotein E4 is considered the most important genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. A group of researchers, led by MDC scientist Thomas Willnow, has now discovered how ApoE4 can damage the brain. Press Release No. 27 June 19, 2020 Berlin Fantastic muscle proteins and where to find them Setting out to identify all proteins that make up the sarcomere, the basic contractile unit of muscle cells, resulted in an unexpected revelation, providing experimental evidence that helps explain a fundamental mystery about how muscles work. The research was published in Nature Communications. Pagination Current page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 … Next page Next › Last page Last »
