Press Release No. 51 November 05, 2020 Berlin The ebb and flow of brain ventricles Enlarged ventricles in the brains of people with multiple sclerosis were previously considered a sign of tissue loss. But a team at the MDC and ECRC demonstrated that this expansion often recedes. A study published in JCI Insight now shows that the process observed in mice is transferable to humans. Press Release No. 34 August 14, 2020 Berlin €66 million for the Berlin spin-off T-knife The Berlin biotech start-up T-knife, a spin-off from the MDC together with Charité, has secured investments totaling €66 million. Four venture capital funds committed to the financing in early August. T-knife develops new cancer treatments using modified immune system T cells. Press Release No. 29 July 10, 2020 Berlin Einstein Center for alternative methods in biomedicine The board of the Einstein Foundation approved the preliminary stage of a new Einstein Center for the development of alternative methods for animal testing in biomedical research. The aim of the planned center is to reduce or replace animal experiments. It will be established in cooperation with the MDC. Press Release No. 25 June 11, 2020 Berlin Overactive enzyme causes hereditary hypertension After more than 40 years, several teams at the MDC and ECRC have now made a breakthrough discovery with the help of two animal models: they have proven that an altered gene encoding the enzyme PDE3A causes an inherited form of high blood pressure. This could lead to new concepts for the treatment of hypertension. Press Release No. 21 April 30, 2020 Berlin Support for SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics The LabHive digital platform aims to provide necessary resources to diagnostic centres to enable more tests for SARS-CoV-2. Tobias Opialla from the MDC is one of 15 volunteers who has been involved in the project since the #WirvsVirus Hackathon organized by the German government. Press Release No. 20 April 27, 2020 Berlin A potential agent for treating preeclampsia Researchers at the ECRC have successfully used RNA molecules to treat a dangerous pregnancy disorder called preeclampsia. They were able to alleviate common symptoms of the disorder, like maternal high blood pressure and fetal undernutrition, with virtually no side effects. Press Release No. 19 April 24, 2020 Berlin Laboratory animal report for 2019 Researchers at the MDC used a total of 44,525 animals – mostly mice – in studies in 2019. That is 7,553 less than in the previous year. The MDC has now submitted these figures to the regulatory authority, the Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LaGeSo). Press Release No. 16 April 13, 2020 Berlin Diagnostics, meet CRISPR A new diagnostic test to quickly and easily monitor kidney transplant patients for infection and rejection relies on a simple urine sample and a powerful partner: the gene-editing technology CRISPR. Michael Kaminski, who developed it, leads a new Emmy Noether Group at the MDC & Charité. Press Release No. 11 March 13, 2020 Berlin State-by-state breakdown of COVID-19 Researchers at the MDC have developed a new online tool that displays the development of the COVID-19 epidemic in Germany clearly and by individual state as well as worldwide. The map and timeline showing the spread of the coronavirus are freely available on the internet. Pagination Current page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 … Next page Next › Last page Last »
