 Scientists to speak about their ongoing research.\n\nDirk Brockmann is Pro
 fessor at the Institute of Biology at\nHumboldt-University of Berlin. Betw
 een 2007-2013 he was Professor for\nApplied Mathematics at Northwestern Un
 iversity. At Northwestern\nUniversity he was on the faculty of Northweste
 rn’s Institute on\nComplex Systems [https://www.nico.northwestern.edu/]
  where he still\nholds an external faculty position.\n\nA theoretical phy
 sicist by training\, his research focuses on complex\nsystems at the inter
 face of physics\, life sciences and social\nsciences. He is particularly i
 nterested the application of dynamicals\nsystems theory\, stochastic proce
 sses and network science to infectious\ndisease dynamics and related conta
 gion processes. In this context he\nis currently investigating dynamical p
 rocesses on time-dependent\nnetworks\, complex contagion processes and the
  emergence of cooperation\nin evolutionary processes. He is known for his 
 work on human mobility\nand its role on the global spread of infectious di
 seases.\n\nDirk Brockmann is member of the Institute of Theoretical Biolo
 gy\n[https://itb.biologie.hu-berlin.de/wiki/] as well as the Integrated\
 nResearch Institute for the Life-Sciences\n[https://www.iri-ls.hu-berlin.d
 e/en] at Humboldt University of\nBerlin. He is also head of the project g

 \nGermany’s federal public health institute.\n\nIn 2017 he launched the

 nously expands in examples\nand is designed for teachers\, instructors and
  people that want to gain\nan intuitive unterstanding of the beauty of com
 plex dynamical\nprocesses in nature.\n
