Exhibition: "Hermann von Helmholtz - the genius from the Havel"

July 23, 2021, Exhibition Opening Hermann von Helmholtz: Life and Work

Born in Potsdam, Hermann von Helmholtz is considered one of the most influential natural scientists of his time. August 31 marks the 200th anniversary of his birth. To mark the anniversary, the University of Potsdam and the proWissen Potsdam association, in cooperation with the Helmholtz Association, are paying tribute to Helmholtz as a polymath and genius from the Havel River with a two-part exhibition on the red construction fence next to the Education Forum and in the Science Floor in Potsdam. The MDC is participating in the exhibition.

The exhibition "Helmholtz-PhänoMINTa" takes its guests on a sightseeing tour through his inventions and takes a look at individual stations and important companions of the universal genius. This part of the exhibition can be seen in the corridors of the Science Floor (WIS) of the Education Forum.

The construction fence exhibition "Hermann von Helmholtz - the genius from the Havel" on the red construction fence next to the Education Forum deals on the one hand with the life of Hermann von Helmholtz, which in the 19th century was marked by scientific, technical and industrial progress, but also by crises. The timeline shows Helmholtz's milestones and those of his companions. In addition, eight Helmholtz centers located in Brandenburg and Berlin are presented with their research foci and background information. In addition, the exhibition panels of the institutes/centers each feature a "Helmholtz Challenge" on major challenges facing humanity.
