At the Max Delbrück Center, we are proud to have been regularly certified with "audit berufundfamilie" since December 2009. This certificate is renewed every three years.
We understand family as a generation-spanning network in which people are responsible for each other in the long term and care for each other.
Family-friendly working hours
Work and private life should fit together, and families need flexibility.
That is why we offer our employees flexible working hours in a flexitime model. A daily core time of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. is established for all our staff. Joint work discussions or meetings should take place during this time.
Two days a week, all employees can also work remotely if their work allows them to do so.
Family-friendliness also includes our offers to work part-time. Sabbaticals are also possible.

We offer a wide range of activities for children - from daycare to research vacations.
Childcare
- Campus Kindergarten

The "CampusSterne" kindergarten on Campus Berlin-Buch offers places for 58 children from 8 weeks to 6 years of age. The Kita offers a wide variety of open spaces and activities, a garden, short distances between the workplace and the Kita. The pedagogical concept includes mixed-age childcare, integration, English, project work and social learning. The kindergarten is run by Sehstern e.V. association.
- Parent-child room

The parent-child room on Campus Buch can be used by parents in exceptional and emergency situations, e.g. when the kindergarten is closed, a caregiver is unavailable, childcare is provided as part of extraordinary events or official matters (with external care)). Affected parents should discuss with their superiors if other tools for reconciling work and family life are an alternative solution. Examples would be mobile working or the reduction of overtime.

To make it easier for parents to attend conferences, meetings and seminars, the Welcome & Family Office coordinates childcare during on-site events on request of the organizing research group or department. During external training courses or business trips, the Max Delbrück Center supports the care required for children up to 12 years of age.
Offers for vacations
- The Helmholtz Vacation Camp

The family offices of the Helmholtz Association offer a joint one-week vacation camp for children or grandchildren of employees between the ages of 8 and 14 during the summer vacations throughout Germany.
- Researcher vacations

During the school vacations, the children of our employees can take part in various science day courses on the Buch campus. In cooperation with the Life Science Learning Lab, the girls and boys become researchers and can experiment together with scientists from various scientific fields.

In cooperation with the Life Science Learning Lab, the MDC offers an orientation week for children and grandchildren of employees during the summer, fall, winter and Easter vacations. This offer is intended for older children from class 8 onwards.
Care
We provide support for family caregivers.
Taking care of relatives can be a challenge. We want to provide professional support for our affected employees and their relatives in this life situation and answer their individual questions appropriately. That's why we offer a nationwide advisory service in cooperation with Deutscher Pflegering (DPR). Here, our employees can contact experts individually and free of charge via a service portal and a care hotline from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This valuable support offered by the Max Delbrück Center helps employees to reconcile the demands of their job with their personal care responsibilities.

Sozialwerk Bund
Our employees can become members of the "Sozialwerk". They provide a wide range of social benefits in a variety of areas: Family recreation, support for mother/father-child cures, senior citizens' groups, children's and youth camps in Germany, Spain and Italy, language trips for young people, group and individual trips at exclusive special prices.
Federal housing assistance
Employees of the Max Delbrück Center can also take advantage of the housing assistance offered to federal employees. Rental properties that are currently available are published on the Internet for a period of 4 weeks.
