Mark Post

Mark Post received his medical degree and his PhD in pulmonary pharmacology from Utrecht University in the 80´s and afterwards joined the Interuniversity Cardiology Institute of the Netherlands until 1997. He pursued his career as a full-time Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA and moved his lab to Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, NH in 2001, where he was appointed Associate and later Visiting Professor of Medicine and Physiology until 2010. Since his return to the Netherlands mid 2002, he is a Professor of Vascular Physiology at Maastricht University, a Chairman of the Physiology Department since 2004 and had been appointed a Professor of Angiogenesis in Tissue Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology until 2010.

Mark Post is best known for his research on lab-grown meat and his proof of concept for a cultured hamburger in August 2013. In addition to his university research, particularly on fundamental processes such as vascular patterning, neovascularization, endothelial and smooth muscle cell function and restenosis, he launched the company MosaMeat together with food technologist Peter Verstrate in 2015, gave numerous TEDx talks and was selected to join the SingularityU the Netherlands faculty due to his pioneering research on cultured meat which is supposed to hit the market by 2020.

Elisa Kieback

She obtained her first degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She did her PhD and later a PostDoc with Prof. Wolfgang Uckert at the Max-Delbrück-Center in Berlin, Germany. During her studies she performed translational projects in the field of T cell receptor gene engineering and T cell therapy for cancer. In 2016 she joined the group of Prof. Thomas Blankenstein at the MDC where she coordinates the preparation of a Phase I clinical trial with gene-modified T cell in patients with multiple myeloma. As part of this project she was involved in the establishment of the GMP production process, preclinical analyses, immunomonitoring as well as preparation of the regulatory documents for the clinical trial application. She is also active in the commercialization of this therapeutic approach. In 2016 she won the first prize in the largest international biotech business plan competition “OneStart” as part of the team “Captain T Cell” and in 2018 she co-founded the Biotech start-up “T-knife” of which she is currently the CEO.

Mirko Moroni

Mirko Moroni received his first degree in Biology from University of Milan in 2004. He worked on his doctoral thesis in Prof. Isabel Bermudez laboratory of Neuropharmacology at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. His main focus during his PhD was the structural and functional investigation of neuronal receptors. From Oxford he then moved to University College London where he worked for almost 3 years as a post-doc in the lab of Prof. Lucia Sivilotti in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. There, he specialized in electrophysiological recordings of hypothalamic temperature sensitive neurons. In 2012 he joined the group of Prof. Gary Lewin at the MDC where his focus was the investigation of biophysical properties of ion channels in the sensory system. In October 2017 he transferred from academia to industry and until now is working at Bayer in Wuppertal as a leading scientist at the Department of disease Genomics. 

Michaela Mühlberg

Michaela Muehlberg studied chemistry at the Free University of Berlin, Germany and Université Paris-Sud, France, obtaining her Master of Science. She pursued a PhD in bioorganic chemistry under supervision of Professor Christian Hackenberger at the Free University of Berlin, Germany and the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), Germany.

In 2014, Michaela joined the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Publishing Editor handling manuscripts from first submission through peer review until publication of the final version. She then moved on to work as a Development Editor on the organic chemistry and chemical biology journal portfolio working on journal strategy, and attracting and promoting journal content. In 2017, Michaela moved on to organise and develop the scientific content of Faraday Discussions, a journal based on a series of scientific meetings. Since January 2018 she is Deputy Editor on the RSC’s nano- and Horizons journals – Nanoscale, Nanoscale Horizons and Materials Horizons.
