Prof. Dr. med. Frank Winkler (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum): "Malignant networks in the brain: Cancer Neuroscience of brain tumors"

Our nervous system has multiple influences on cancer initiation, growth, dissemination and treatment resistance. Remarkably, this includes functional synaptic connections between neurons and cancer cells. Moreover, cancer cell-intrinsic neural mechanisms can help tumors to thrive. In this talk I will outline the discoveries of key principles of neuro-cancer interactions, discuss how this exciting area of research at the crossroads of neuroscience and oncology can further instruct both fields, and develop a roadmap for clinical translation.
