Dr. Mareike Albert “Gene regulatory mechanisms of neocortex development and evolution”

Dr. Mareike Albert studies gene regulatory mechanisms in brain development, evolution and disease. After her PhD at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, Mareike moved to the Biotech Research and Innovation Center in Copenhagen and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden for her postdoctoral training. In 2019, she started her own group as Emmy Noether fellow at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden TUD Dresden. Mareike received the Edmond H. Fisher Prize, BIF, CNV and EMBO fellowships. She is using cortical organoids from different species and from patients with neurodevelopmental disorders to decode the epigenetic regulation in neural stem cells.
