Plastic People - the hidden crisis of microplastics
Plastic is all around us, and the increasing presence of microplastics in our eveyday lives, endangers our health. Almost every piece of plastic – whch is made from petroleum – breaks down into microplastics. These microscopic particles are contained in many everyday chemicals and cosmetics. Almost every piece of plastic made from petroleum breaks down into microplastics. These microscopic particles are found in many everyday items and cosmetics. They float in the air, swim in all waters, mix with our soils and thus become a integral part of our environment.
And research shows that these particles are also in our bodies: in our organs, blood and brains. Plastic has become a nightmare for people and nature. In Germany, around six million tons of plastic waste are produced every year, including almost three billion disposable cups, which corresponds to an average of 320,000 cups per hour.
In ‘Plastic People’, renowned author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a very personal approach to investigating the real hazards of plastic
Afterwards, scientists, experts and filmmakers will discuss the topics of the film in greater depth, provide important additional information and answer questions.
