Life Science Learning Lab

During a week-long course at the Gläsernes Labor, 24 teenagers delved into genetics, immunology, and allergic disease. The course marked the beginning of a new collaboration with the Max Delbrück Center, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the German Center for Child and Adolescent Health and others.

The Life Science Learning Lab has launched a new podcast intended to spark young people’s interest in research. During the first three episodes of “scienceCLASH,” students from Berlin interviewed Sarah Kedziora and Theda Bartolomaeus from the ECRC about the gut microbiome’s influence on heart health.

Isolate DNA, ask questions, make new friends: During the Easter holidays, refugee children and young people from Ukraine were able to take part in free experimentation courses and experience guided tours of MDC research laboratories at the Berlin-Buch Campus.

Claudia Jacob is a trained biologist who has a passion for explaining how things work. As head of the Life Science Learning Lab (Gläsernes Labor) on Campus Berlin-Buch, she gives schoolchildren a hands-on opportunity to explore the life sciences – from conducting lab experiments to discussing ideas with scientists – and perhaps even a chance to become a scientist themselves one day.

Young talents from the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT) will start in February in Berlin at the nationwide competition for young scientists "Jugend forscht". This year's motto is: "Ingenious by chance"? The MDC is also participating as a sponsoring institution.

On June 22, the councilors and officials in the Berlin district of Pankow presented the 2020/21 Pankow Environmental Awards.
