With its "Back to the roots" Lab, the Max Delbrück Center aims to enable young international researchers to become ambassadors for Research in Germany in their home countries. It is one of the winners of the DFG Community Prize.

What does the delphinium flower have to do with proteins and corona? Why is diversity good for research? And, what are Berlin-based scientists doing to reduce animal testing? In 2021, Berlin Science Week once again offered plenty of food for thought and hands-on experiments.

Wissensstadt Berlin 2021 kicked off in late June with an extensive program that offers a glimpse into what the city’s scientists are working on – all under the motto “Berlin wants to know.” The MDC is hosting events that bring science to life and give the public an opportunity to discuss the medicine of tomorrow.

MDC researchers used significantly fewer laboratory animals during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 than in previous years. The MDC has now been awarded the “Exemplary Communications of Animal Research” seal for its transparency on the issue of animal experiments.

Three minutes – that’s all the time FameLab contestants have to present their research in a dynamic and engaging way. On May 14, 2020, Ian Stewart, a scientist in James Poulet’s lab at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), will be taking part in the competition’s national final.

After nearly seven weeks of minimal operations, the scientists at the Max Delbrück Center will return to their laboratories on May 4, 2020. During basic operations, stringent safety measures will be in place due to the pandemic.

On Wednesday, 18 March 2020, 8 a.m., the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) will go into emergency operation. Corona research will be intensified.
