Professor Martin Lohse
Short Biography
Pharmacologist Martin Lohse served from 2016 to 2019 as Chairman of the Board and Scientific Director of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC). His research investigates the mechanisms of cellular signaling and drug effects on receptors. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and two prestigious grants from the European Research Council (ERC).
Lohse is Vice-President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and was Spokesperson of the Executive Board of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) from August 2017 to June 2018. He was Vice-President for Research at the University of Würzburg from 2009 to 2015, and a member of the German Ethics Council from 2003 to 2008. He has founded three biotechnology firms and from 2001 to 2016 was Founding Spokesperson for the Rudolf Virchow Center at the University of Würzburg.
