MDC in minimal operation - Corona-relevant research continues

On Wednesday, 18 March 2020, 8 a.m., the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) will go into emergency operation. Corona research will be intensified. This was decided by the Executive Board and the crisis management team on 16 March.

All regular research in the MDC buildings will be suspended. The research groups and technology platforms involved in corona virus research, which also cooperate with Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and beyond, will of course continue their work.

All employees – as long as they are not assigned to emergency operations or involved in corona-relevant research – do not work in the buildings of the Research Center in Buch or Mitte, but mobile from home.

Employees who are indispensable for maintaining emergency operation or corona research and who have been informed accordingly are encouraged to continue working at the MDC. They have been granted an admission permit.

On April 1, there was a first confirmed corona infection at the MDC.

All events cancelled

Already on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the MDC cancelled all conferences, meetings, and events until July 20, 2020. The Governing Mayor of Berlin decided on urgent measures for Berlin's scientific community against the further spreading of the coronavirus. These regulations not only concern public events at the MDC such as the Long Night of Science, but also conferences, meetings, and third-party events. The Life Science Learning Lab has cancelled its school events as well. To protect participants and staff of the Nako Health Study, the study center at MDC Berlin North also ceases operations indefinitely.
