A political scientist and expert in research policy, Tim Flink plans to enhance collaboration, align research with industry needs, and strengthen our societal and political relevance.

Coffee after 2 p.m. is a must — this was the motivation that drove plans for a new café on the Berlin-Buch campus. Professor Holger Gerhardt has been involved in the project from the start. We up him at the café not long after its opening.

Johannes Huppa has taken up the professorship for tumor immunology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin as of September 1. The T-cell receptor expert will also conduct research at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin-Buch and the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK).

Rosalba Olga Proce is a fourth year PhD student in the Hörnberg lab. She studies the molecular basis of social behavior in mice. She is also a PhD representative and enjoys organizing community events, such as the PhD retreat. Her book recommendation transports readers into a fantasy world.

We can learn from failure, yet often we hide our setbacks, especially in our professional lives. At the next SPARK event on September 5, enjoy a piano and violin concert followed by an invigorating discussion between musicians and scientists as they explore the concept of “A CV of failures.”

Children from the Elisabethstift and the Berliner Herz children's hospice got a taste of research during a visit to the Life Science Learning Lab. This opportunity was made possible by a fundraising campaign at the Max Delbrück Center, initiated by two employees and the Association of Friends.

At the Max Delbrück Center summer party, employees Daniela Dixon, Matthias Runow and Ingrid Ziegenhagen won this year’s Silent Hero Award. The award recognizes the commitment of employees whose hard work behind the scenes keeps our research running smoothly.

The Max Delbrück Center, Berlin, celebrates its new, innovative research building with a “topping-out ceremony.” The Imaging Innovation Center, designed by the architectural firm heinlewischer, will host researchers specializing in imaging and analysis alongside data experts under one roof starting in 2026.

Christian Panetzky is the sustainability coordinator at the Max Delbrück Center. He helps to make laboratories eco-friendly and discusses the integration of sustainability with cutting-edge research. The book he recommends inspires confidence in times of crisis.
