woman in a lab

What are you reading, Ms Proce?

Rosalba Olga Proce is a fourth year PhD student in the Hörnberg lab. She studies the molecular basis of social behavior in mice. She is also a PhD representative and enjoys organizing community events, such as the PhD retreat. Her book recommendation transports readers into a fantasy world.

When I am not in the lab thinking about science, I like to read books about something completely different. I enjoy fantasy books with some romanticism. My recommendation is a book that I read recently: “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general — also known as her tough-as-talons mother — has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders …

A dragon without its rider is a tragedy.
A rider without their dragon is dead.”

Imagine adventure, dragons, and some deep secrets – a perfect combination for relaxing and enjoyable reading in my opinion. This is the first book of a series. The sequel has already been published and the author is now writing the next books in the series, so you have time to catch up on the story!

Two podcasts – in English and Italian

Another thing that I enjoy is listening to podcasts that range from true crime stories to interviews to science.

A relaxing podcast that I am listening to at the moment is called “Out of the Pods” by Deepti Vampati and Natalie Lee. These two women joined a reality TV show on Netflix some years ago. Now, they comment on other shows, gossip about them, but also talk about other topics like friendships, break-ups, and more. I recommend it because it has “a nice conversation with a friend” vibe.

Another very well-done podcast that I listen to is in Italian. I would like to recommend it to Italian readers because it is amazing: “Sangue loro il ragazzo mandato a uccidere” by Pablo Trincia!

It is a tough but emotional story that gives another perspective on what happened during the 1980s in Italy, in Rome to be precise.
