Campus Concert: Music Meets Science

The Friends of MDC cordially invites you to the next event of our series ‘Music Meets Science’

For the musical part of the programme, we are delighted to welcome the young pianist Ruihan Jiang, who works as a piano teacher and ballet instructor at the Amadeus Music School in Berlin. She has enjoyed success in numerous music competitions. She will be performing works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin, amongst others.

We can also look forward to a very young talent: 10-year-old Leo Wang Ziqiao began playing the piano at the age of five and a half. Leo recently won first prize in the piano category at ‘Jugend musiziert’. He will delight us with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dmitri Shostakovich, Cornelius Gurlitt and Gabriel Urbain Fauré, amongst others. He is currently taught by Professor Galina Iwanzowa, who will also be performing a four-handed piece with him for us.

‘How does the same DNA form both the brain and the heart? Or: One and the same genome, many lives: How our cells choose their fate’ – we will learn more about this from the speaker at the scientific lecture, Dr Daria Bunina. Since July 2022, she has been leading a research group at the MDC that investigates how epigenetic factors, namely influences such as disease, lifestyle, the environment and others, affect cell differentiation. If errors occur in this process, this can lead to cardiovascular diseases or neurological developmental disorders. The aim of this research is to develop diagnoses and treatments. Before joining the MDC, Dr Bunina worked in Moscow and Heidelberg.
