About the book:
The ability to survive without oxygen for 18 minutes, radioactivity-resistant bodies that can be sent to space, and animals that can voluntarily shed their skin. What sound like superpowers from the heroic universes of Marvel & Co. are just a few examples of extraordinary animals that adapt to the sometimes extreme conditions of their environment with enormous creativity. In his new book “Remarkable” Russ Hodge brings together several of these animal survival artists and provides detailed insights into the special strategies by which they have adapted, and from which we humans can also learn a thing or two.

Just as interesting as the extraordinary animals are the lives and research paths of the remarkable scientists who have spent decades studying the animals. Most researchers came to their animals via unconventional, winding routes full of obstacles. Their stories and adventures are also full of surprises and are an important theme of the book.

Fourteen chapters present animals with superpowers under the earth, in the depths of the ocean, on land, in the air and even in space. Russ Hodge approaches science and the world of animals with great enthusiasm and a special talent in presenting complex scientific topics in an accessible and captivating way. As an author and teacher at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, he is adept at vividly and vividly presenting to the public what his colleagues have discovered through years of often painstaking work: Cutting-edge science translated into exciting stories!

A book about the value of diversity, saving the world and a tribute to science - the ideal read for animal lovers and science enthusiasts!
