From pond water probes to pesticide impact and chili-infused soil: 85 young researchers presented 43 projects at the “Jugend forscht” regional science competition at Campus Berlin-Buch. Under the theme “Maximum Perspective,” students tackled real-world challenges with curiosity and creativity.

We mourn the sudden unexpected loss of Peer Bork, a formative figure who helped shape the center’s intellectual spirit and commitment to innovative life science. Bork went on to build an extraordinary international career, influencing modern biology far beyond Berlin.

During a week-long course at the Gläsernes Labor, 24 teenagers delved into genetics, immunology, and allergic disease. The course marked the beginning of a new collaboration with the Max Delbrück Center, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the German Center for Child and Adolescent Health and others.

From better 3D printers for biological structures to soil remediation with microorganisms – in the 60th round of “Jugend forscht,” regional students presented their exciting research projects on the Berlin-Buch campus.

From cell biology to CRISPR gene editing technology – the Life Science Learning Lab at the Berlin-Buch research campus offers both students and teachers the opportunity to immerse themselves in science. This year, “Gläsernes Labor” celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Campus Berlin-Buch has a new incubator for life science start-ups: 8,000 square meters of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space have been built on the Science and Technology Campus. The BerlinBioCube was ceremonially opened on October 11, 2023 in the presence of the Governing Mayor.

Cryo-electron microscopy allows structural biologists to look at the most minute building blocks of life. We celebrated the opening of the joint Core Facility and the corresponding research building of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Max Delbrück Center with a symposium.

The Berlin competition "Who cycles the most?" has come to a close, with the Max Delbrück Center and the facilities of Campus Buch took third-place. Approximately nine percent of all employees from administration and science participated in the competition, taking to their saddles.
