Our most important university partner for translational research activities is the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

 

Since 2007, the two institutions have jointly run the experimental and clinical research center (ECRC), a center for translational medicine on the Campus Buch. The Max Delbrück Center and the Charité have extended their joint activities even further by forming the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), which is focusing on translational systems medicine research.

Buch campus to get ultralow temperature microscopes

By mid-2020 two new cryogenic electron microscopes (cryo-EM) will be available to scientists at the Buch campus. The building is almost finished, and the first crates of equipment were delivered in December. There’s still a lot to do, however, before everything is up and running.

Studying the human brain in the lab

A new technology platform at the Max Delbrück Center is using human stem cells to develop complex tissue cultures known as “organoids.” This enables researchers to gain a better understanding of disease processes by simulating them in 3D. Neuronal diseases will be modeled first and then other diseases.
