At the “Hauptstadtforum” of the MINT-EC school excellence network, students had the opportunity to learn about the latest research at the Max Delbrück Center, including how to use machine learning to decode data and enhance immune cells to protect from COVID-19.

Nothing works without digitization anymore. The challenges for students and teachers that come with this were the topic of the MINT-EC Digital Forum on February 26, 2021. 630 students took part in the virtual event under the motto "VUCA - my digital future and I".

More than 250 students and 15 "Jugend forscht" award winners from all over Germany met at the Digital Forum from MINT-EC and MDC in February. They attended lectures and workshops on digital developments and methods and conducted experiments in the lab.

The MINT400 Forum in Berlin brings together teachers and schoolchildren from all over Germany. Two researchers from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) are offering workshops at the networking meeting – partly because one of them was once a teacher himself.

Basic medical research would be impossible without math and chemistry. At this year's MINT400 Forum, 350 schoolchildren and 50 teachers from all over Germany came together to learn about the importance of interdisciplinary research for science today.

Can the lives of microorganisms be described through mathematics? It is one of the questions that pupils participating in the MINT Excellence Academy in “Systems Biology” have asked scientists during their visit to the MDC from Feb. 6 to 10 this year. Twenty pupils from across Germany have come to catch a glimpse of how researchers combine laboratory and computational science into models of biological processes.

“Dear future colleagues” – with these words Ernst T. Rietschel, chairman of the board of directors of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), welcomes the 400 school students attending this year’s capital forum MINT400. The young people, together with 50 teachers, have come to the MDC in Berlin Buch to learn about basic biomedical research.
