NeuroCure – Neuroscience Clinical Research Center (NCRC)

The Berlin-based Neuroscience Clinical Research Center (NCRC) is an interdisciplinary consortium uniting neuroscientists, basic researchers, and clinicians, independent of their institutional affiliations. It aims to translate scientific knowledge from basic research into clinical application. Neurocure is part of the Excellence Strategy, funded by the German federal and state governments.

A team led by MDC researcher Ana Pombo has deciphered the 3D structure of the genome in three cell types of the mouse brain. They not only discovered specific folding patterns but also found that very long genes almost completely lose their compact folded structure when most at work, as they report in “Nature”.

Low levels of a simple sugar – a new biomarker for severe MS?

Researchers from the ECRC in Berlin, together with scientists from the United States and Canada, have discovered a sugar molecule whose levels are reduced in the blood of patients with particularly severe multiple sclerosis. Their discovery could pave the way for a new therapeutic approach, the team reports in medical journal JAMA Neurology.
