Nocturne is "Berlin's AI Start-up of the Year 2019"

Using artificial intelligence to evaluate images of the retina – The jury of the "Deep Berlin Conference" was convinced by the concept of the "Nocturne" spin-off that uses the eye as a window to the human brain.

The jury of the "Deep Berlin Conference" selected Nocturne as "Berlin's AI Start-up of the Year 2019". Nocturne is a spin-off of the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure, at  Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in which Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and the Experimental and Clinical Research Center, a joint institution of Charité and MDC are also involved. "The award is a great recognition of our work," said the Nocturne team, Dr. Ella Maria Kadas, Dr. Sunil Kumar Yadav and Dr. Alexander Brandt.

Nocturne uses the eye as a window to the brain. The technology, that has been developed to support diagnosis, therapy and assessment of the course of neurological diseases is based on images of the retina. The various parameters for these applications are identified using state-of-the-art Artificial Intellegence (AI)-based analysis. The team won the AI Start-Up Competition at the "Deep Berlin Conference" on November 5, 2019. The prize consisted of a powerful NVIDIA GPU plus a ticket to the SXSW Tech Festival in Austin, Texas 2020. The conference brought together more than 300 participants from the deep tech scene and the best Berlin AI start-ups working on significant advances in technology in their respective industries and markets.
