Campus Concert: Music Meets Science

The Friends of MDC cordially invite you all to our event ‘Music Meets Science’

The musical programme will feature two young talents, Paul and Michael Afonin, aged 22 and 16. Paul Afonin began playing the piano at the age of five and a half and is currently in his fourth semester studying piano with a specialisation in solo piano in Rostock. His younger brother, Michael Afonin, is a violinist and attends the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music Gymnasium in Berlin. The brothers will perform works by composers including Beethoven, Brahms and Wieniawski. The concert offers both soloists the opportunity to demonstrate the virtuosity with which they have already achieved considerable success at various music competitions.

In the academic section, Professor Johannes Huppa will explain ‘How T-cells detect cancer’. The renowned expert in T-cell recognition, together with his research team, aims to elucidate in detail the mechanisms of immunological differentiation between foreign and self-cells, with a particular focus on making cancer therapies more effective and improving the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
