Holger Gerhardt reelected to DZHK leadership team
The DZHK General Assembly elected a new executive board, welcoming Dr. Rabea Hinkel (Professor of Laboratory Animal Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the German Primate Center in Göttingen) and Dr. Heribert Schunkert (Director of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases at the TUM University Hospital German Heart Center and Professor at the Technical University of Munich). Dr. Holger Gerhardt (Berlin) was re-elected; he has held the position since July 1, 2024.
The standard term for DZHK board members is three years and may be extended a single time. The three-member board provides strategic leadership for the DZHK and represents the center externally. Schunkert will serve as spokesperson of the board.
Gerhardt is Vice Director of the Max Delbrück Center and is Group Leader the Integrative Vascular Biology research group. He holds a DZHK professorship in Experimental Cardiovascular Research at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and studies how blood vessels form and how vascular dysfunction contributes to cardiovascular diseases.

Its mission is to rapidly translate findings from basic research into improved therapies, diagnostics, and prevention for patients with cardiovascular diseases.
