A team led by Mina Gouti has developed a stem cell-based model that enables researchers to test new drugs to treat neuromuscular diseases and to refine existing therapies. The project, called NMJCare, was named one of the top ten ideas in the national Science4Life start-up competition.

Five scientists from the Max Delbrück Center have been named among the 100 most important minds in Berlin science in 2025 by the newspaper Tagesspiegel: Simone Spuler, Clara Vázquez García, Thoralf Niendorf, Gabriele Schiattarella and Ana Pombo.

Researchers at the Experimental and Clinical Research Center in Berlin are developing a targeted treatment for muscular dystrophy with the help of gene-editing. Preclinical research led by the Spuler Lab published in “Nature Communications” now paves the way for first-in-human clinical trials.

The UNIPRENEURS Initiative has recognized the entrepreneurial spirit of 20 professors, among them ECRC researcher Simone Spuler. As a co-founder of the startup MyoPax, she is pioneering stem cell technology to develop regenerative therapies for previously incurable muscle diseases.

The stem cell therapy developed by MyoPax, a spin-off from the Max Delbrück Center and Charité, could soon be helping children with previously incurable muscle diseases thanks to an accelerated approval process. The necessary clinical trial will start in the fall.

Employees of the Max Delbrück Center and the Experimental and Clinical Research Center are mourning the loss of Gisela Krebs, who has passed away at the age of 91. Since 2015, her foundation has been supporting muscle desease research.
