Podcast on mini-organs from the lab
Ines Lahmann explains how organoids could change medical research in a podcast called ‘Forschungsquartett’. Listen to the interview with detektor.fm editor Esther Stephan (in German).
Organoids are tiny replicas of human organs. Instead of animal testing, these mini-organs derived from stem cells could soon help us better understand diseases and develop tailored therapies.
Dr. Ines Lahmann is working with neuromuscular organoids at the Gouti Lab. She says: "What is particularly exciting about our organoids is that they are functional. This means that the muscles start to contract, induced by the nerve cells in the culture."
